2020 – 2021: Our year in review

“We remain forward looking as we are closer to the end than the beginning, having reached the vaccination milestones required for the careful easing of restrictions. We will focus on the path ahead, taking the lessons from the past year to spur recovery and the next phase of Araluen’s future. ”.

DIGNITY, PASSION & INTEGRITY:
LIVING OUR VALUES TO KEEP PEOPLE SAFE, CONNECTED AND ENGAGED

In 2020 – 2021, Araluen continued to tackle the challenges of providing safe, essential support under fluctuating, pandemic-driven conditions. The second year of extended lockdowns and restrictions made the support we could deliver in-home, online and individually a vital link to some normalcy and routine for many participants and their families. Access to NDIS-funded support is a basic right for people with disabilities, no matter what. A huge, systematic effort went into keeping people safe and innovating so that people could continue to live as well as possible, participate or work. Our staff across the organisation made a positive difference in the lives of the people we support. We are proud of them.

WHAT WILL ARALUEN LOOK LIKE IN THE FUTURE?

This year, we took deliberate, informed steps towards achieving a future of our making. COVID-19 did not stop us from launching our Services Review. Approaching NDIS price changes will significantly impact how we can operate onsite services. This fact strengthened our determination to reimagine how we support people so that Araluen can continue to provide modern, imaginative and sustainable services for many years to come.

Over x- months, we consulted broadly across our entire community to get a better picture of what people want and need from Araluen. The feedback we received is complemented by in-depth research into the social, economic and other external factors influencing service delivery. A suitably qualified and experienced team of staff performed the latter function, courtesy of the State Government’s Working for Victoria Program and The City of Whittlesea. Subsequently, Service Redevelopment has gotten underway. Phase 1 consists of eight projects that focus on improving existing supports or trialling some new things.

THANK YOU!

Despite enduring the world’s longest lockdown, the continued risk to health and well-being and much uncertainty, progress was achieved. There are many people to thank. The Araluen Annual Report 2021 summarises our year and our financial position and acknowledges the people and partners who contributed in many different ways – we are grateful for the generosity, support and input of our community. We hope you enjoy the Araluen Annual Report 2021.
