About Araluen

red squiggle line

Araluen is a vibrant community where people’s opinions matter

Araluen is one of the biggest support services for adults with intellectual in Melbourne’s north-east suburbs. Operations include:
  • Day Supports
  • Recreation Programs
  • Supported Residential Units
  • Support Coordination Services; and
  • Chancez Cafe supported training facility
Our origins go back to the 1960s when a frustrated group of parents started a playgroup for their children in a garage in Kew because of the lack of supports available for a person with an intellectual disability at the time.
Those parents went on to start the service that has grown to become Araluen as we’re known today. The founding principles of imagination and determination are still with us and Araluen continues to embrace change for the exciting new opportunities it can bring the people we support.
