This November, we’re proud that Araluen reaches a significant milestone.
– Join us, support us –
50 years ago, Araluen Lower Plenty began with a bold vision based on determination and compassion. Our founders, a group of parents, were driven to create a unique, safe, engaging place for their children with disabilities to have a life of belonging and fulfilment outside their home or an institute. So, our home-grown service that started from a humble suburban backyard put down roots at our current 5-acre semi-rural site, officially opening on 24 November 1974.
Araluen is named for an indigenous term meaning ‘place of the water lilies’ and ‘running water’. Our emblem, the waterlily, symbolises sustenance, nurture, and hope, embodying our commitment to growth, opportunity, and enduring support.
As we celebrate our golden anniversary, we not only reflect on our achievements but also pledge to continue evolving and empowering individuals to achieve a great life. We invite you to join our anniversary events to celebrate and reflect as a community.
Support us to make our celebrations special and memorable for all!
We’re seeking financial support so we can preserve our rich history and ensure it remains relevant and available. We’ll also host an exciting range of events and experiences, based on community feedback, so everyone can participate in a meaningful, fun way. Your donation will also help us ensure we do this in a way that is as accessible as possible to all people in our extended community. W look forward to celebrating with you!
So please consider donating a little (or a lot!) to our Golden Lilies fundraising campaign! Let’s honour our founders’ vision of determination and inclusion and inspire a future as vibrant as our past.
Donations over $2 are tax deductable.
With tax time approaching, it’s a great time to support a worthy cause. Every bit helps. You can also opt to make a general donation HERE
Araluen has thrived for 50 years because of the strength of community support. Thank you! And special thanks to everyone who has made a contribution – your generosity makes a difference.
