Ross is very much convinced of his “inner world” – unique, personal and full of familiar symbols. Dreamlike images from the past recur in a pattern. Some are reminiscent of objective, representational images like houses and people in the landscape, others elaborate surreal worlds of bird-like fish and rock-like spheres. Magnificent winged angels make the spiritual visible. Ross mostly explores the color triads of yellow, blue, red and white, orange, green. Each color achieves an all-embracing power. Blue for example is typically a heavenly color. The ultimate feeling it creates is one of rest whilst red radiates unbounded warmth, ringing with powerful intensity. Colours are put down in multiple layers of strong texture.
