Julia is deaf and communicates by sign language and a richly developed visual vocabulary about which she’s passionate. In her silent world she’s concerned with the life of the imagination. A journey through her subconscious reveals a strangely intense place but also one of various territories, mostly playful but sometimes dark with submerged feelings of unease. Personal myths recur throughout her work. They have a great range, novelty and vitality stemming from a world of childhood memories, family and home alongside universal symbols from science, history and ancient art. Through much experimentation, Julia has clarified her vision to a simple textural approach. She has very few influences and comes directly to the blank canvas working straight from her internal world.
Achievements:
