The 3 Units comprising our Day Service are:
- ACLU – Araluen Continuing Learning Unit (Lower Plenty & Hurstbridge)
- Seniors Unit (Lower Plenty)
- Community Options Unit (Lower Plenty & Rosanna)
There are 90 different day programs on offer each week in which our people are able to participate. There truly is something for everyone. The art programs continue to produce amazing quality work and some of our artists have had the thrill of community exhibitions and sale of their works.
The variety of sports on offer ensures that people are able to participate in activities that they enjoy and at their own standard. At Community Options we have some budding basketball champions not to mention our bocce stars. A number of our people continue to enjoy supported paid employment and derive great satisfaction as productive employees.
We stage an annual production that continues to reach new heights. Over recent years our productions have included The Rocky Horror Show, The Lion King and Shrek. Our staff team harnessed the talents of 30 of our people performing to a combined audience in excess of 600 people. We had action, songs, dialogue, colour and movement—and the visual presentation was quite amazing.
At Milley Lodge our seniors have participated in a wide variety of activities. One of the favourites is the regular visit by our pet therapist who brings along Brannach and Abbey the friendly golden retrievers . Morning Melodies remains a great source of entertainment and participation.
The ACLU program was established in November 2005. Consistent with the State Disability Plan, it aims to assist all clients to take greater responsibility for their future directions, whilst maintaining and building skills to gain greater control over the circumstances that will affect their lives. Clients in the program have the opportunity to continue to learn with their peers of similar abilities.
Nine ‘entry' criteria have been developed to ensure a consistent approach is used to identify potential new participants, with a minimum of 6 criteria being required for clients to become part of the program. This program is modified each semester to reflect the outcomes of our Person Centred Planning model that operates across Araluen's services.
Eligibility / Application Process
The Department of Human Services has a regional waiting list for funded access to day services and, through the Vacancy Management Process, notifies agencies of people requiring services when a vacancy occurs. If a client is with the Futures for Young Adults program, preferences are given to the Transition Team who then contact the nominated services. All referrals are made via the Client Intake Team.
Araluen should be contacted to obtain an up to date schedule of programs offered by each Unit.
